My media and Communications Work [Career & Freelance]

I am a creative freelancer and communications professional with a focus on storytelling and science communication. I use photography, art/design, and writing to help bring both complex ideas and local, community efforts to life.

To date, my work has largely centered around watershed conservation, environmental education, and local food systems. To me, the most interesting part of these efforts is often the people behind the initiatives. As a result, my work places a strong emphasis on the humans in these spaces.

Currently, I lead communications for the Conservation Stewardship Department at the B.C. Wildlife Federation. In this role, I contribute to province-wide efforts to elevate watershed security and support ecosystem education and restoration. Before taking on this role, I worked independently in communications and spent several years growing food and living in both rural and urban communities across the province.

Today, I’m based in the West Kootenays and am proud to serve the Okanagan, Similkameen, Kootenay regions, and beyond.

In my freelance work, I love collaborating with small businesses, non-profits, and individuals to support their digital communications needs, tell their stories, and bring their creative visions to life. I cover local events, design websites, create logos and posters, and have even written op-eds on behalf of small, local businesses!

My design and photography skills are self-taught but grounded in the marketing knowledge I gained through my Bachelor of Business Administration—a program that sharpened my strategic thinking, even if the creative side of my brain was always the louder one. Additionally, I have taken several weekend-long graphic design courses and am currently completing a Photography & Video Certificate through the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD University).

A bit more about me! I grew up on a farm and rode horses nearly every day as a child. Today, outside of work, I enjoy working with natural fibres (I’ve knit three sweaters to date!), gardening, cooking for friends and family, and spending time outdoors.
